Makes
16 brownies
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cut into bits
  • 2 ounces unsweetened chocolate
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans or hazelnuts
  • 1 package (2.52 ounces) Toblerone® candy, or similar chewy toffee candy, chopped
Steps
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter and flour an 8-inch square baking pan.

Place butter and chocolate in a microwave-proof mixing bowl or in the top of a double boiler. Microwave on medium-high (80 percent) or heat over hot water, stirring occasionally, until melted and smooth.

Beat eggs on high speed until light, about 2 minutes. Beat in sugar. With a spatula, stir in butter and chocolate. Stir in vanilla. Stir in flour, cinnamon, and salt. Stir in nuts and chopped candy. Spoon the thin batter into prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

Bake brownies in the center of the oven for about 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the brownies comes out with moist crumbs. Set pan on a wire rack to cool

With the aid of a sharp knife, cut cooled brownies into squares and remove with a pastry knife or spatula to a serving dish.
