Arabian-Style Sesame Seed Cookies

Yield: 54 cookies


Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon honey mixed with 2 teaspoons hot
  • water
  • 1/2 cup sesame seeds, toasted
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, at room temperature
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease or
  2. spray cookie sheets.
  3. Stir honey-water mixture into sesame seeds,
  4. stirring well to coat. Set aside.
  5. Cream butter with sugar and honey until light
  6. and fluffy. Mix flour with baking powder and salt. Stir into butter-sugar
  7. mixture to make a smooth dough.
  8. Pinch off pieces of dough and roll into 1-inch
  9. balls. Dip one side of balls in sesame
  10. seeds. Place on cookie sheets, sesame seed side up. Flatten slightly with the
  11. bottom of a drinking glass. Bake in the center of the oven for 13 to 15
  12. minutes, until golden. Let stand on cookie sheets for a minute, then remove to
  13. wire racks to cool.
