Basic Vanilla Buttercream

Yield: 1 1/2 cups


Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 to 4 tablespoons milk or cream, as needed

Instructions

  1. Cream butter, sugar, vanilla, and salt on medium speed, adding milk as necessary to make a creamy, spreadable icing.
  2. Use immediately, or refrigerate for up to two days. Let come to room temperature and beat again before using.
